Anti-aging skincare: when to start and with what?
Share
Anti-aging is not a term for when you are older. It is an approach best started as early as possible. Not because you need to hide something, but because prevention is always more effective than repair.
When do you start with anti-aging?
You lay the foundation in your twenties: daily cleansing, moisturizing, and using SPF. These are the three most impactful things you can do for your skin in the long term.
From your late twenties or early thirties, collagen production slowly begins to decline. This is the time to add a serum with targeted ingredients. Not because you're already noticing anything, but because it's the easiest time to slow down the aging process.
From your forties, the skin changes more visibly. The skin becomes drier, finer, and less firm. At this point, a richer routine with targeted treatments makes more sense.
Which ingredients make a difference?
Retinol and retinaldehydes
Retinol stimulates cell renewal and collagen production. It is one of the most researched and proven anti-aging ingredients. Start with a low dose and gradually build up. Always use it in the evening and always combine with SPF during the day.
Peptides
Peptides are small protein fragments that signal the skin to produce more collagen. Less irritating than retinol and suitable for sensitive or mature skin. Can be combined well with other active ingredients.
Vitamin C
A powerful antioxidant that protects the skin against free radicals, supports collagen production, and helps achieve a more even skin tone. Use it in the morning before your SPF.
Hyaluronic Acid
Draws moisture from the air and deeper skin layers to the surface. Gives the skin a plumper and smoother appearance. Works best when applied to slightly damp skin.
