Caring for acne-prone skin without making it worse

Acne is frustrating. Especially when you feel like nothing helps, or worse: that your skincare products are making the problem worse. Diana regularly sees this in the salon. And almost always, a few adjustments can make a big difference.

Why acne-prone skin requires extra attention

Acne-prone skin can overreact to certain ingredients, dry out from aggressive cleansers, and then produce more sebum as compensation. The result: more pimples instead of fewer.

The most common mistakes

Don't do
  • Aggressive cleansing with soap or alcohol
  • Squeezing pimples
  • Scrubbing irritated skin
  • Skipping moisturizer because the skin is "already oily"
  • Too many active ingredients at once
Do do
  • Gentle cleansing, morning and evening
  • A light non-comedogenic moisturizer
  • Don't skip sun protection
  • Introduce one active ingredient at a time
  • Give a product at least 4 to 6 weeks to work

Which ingredients help with acne?

Salicylic acid

Works within the pore and dissolves excess sebum and dead skin cells. One of the most proven ingredients for acne-prone skin.

Niacinamide

Regulates sebum production, reduces redness, and strengthens the skin barrier. Suitable for daily use.

Zinc

Has an anti-inflammatory effect and helps regulate sebaceous glands.

Diana's tip: Avoid products with comedogenic ingredients. If in doubt, check the first five ingredients on the packaging.

Skincare supports healthy skin but does not replace medical treatment. For severe acne, we recommend visiting a dermatologist.
